Meeting Minutes
President Aaron Shaefer called the regular meeting of the New
Bloomfield Area Civic Association to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Bank
Star One Meeting Room with an attendance of 23 as shown on the Member
and Visitor Sign In Sheets.

Members of the Executive Committee in attendance were President Aaron
Shaefer, 1st Vice President Nancy West, Treasurer Fred Case and
Secretary Jane Hurtt.
President Shaefer welcomed the members and visitors to the meeting and
then asked Gracia Backer, Program Chairperson to introduce Mike
Parnell, Superintendent of New Bloomfield Schools as the speaker for
the evening.
SPEAKER
Mr. Parnell described his educational background to the group and
enthusiastically shared his philosophy of education with our
members. He said he liked small schools and communities and
looked forward to working here in New Bloomfield. He talked about
the plans for New Bloomfield Schools during the 2006 –2007 school year.
MINUTES AND TREASURER’S REPORTS
Copies of the minutes of the July 27, 2006 regular meeting were
distributed prior to the meeting. President Shaefer asked that
the minutes be examined and additions or corrections be made. A
correction of the date 2996 was made to read 2006 and additions of last
names O’Connor and Riley were added to the minutes. The minutes
were then approved as corrected by unanimous vote.
The Treasurer Fred Case distributed copies of the treasurer’s
report. The report showed a balance on hand of $810.89 as of
August 24, 2006. The report was received and filed for
audit. A copy of the report is attached to the original of these
minutes.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Standing Committees
Executive Committee
President Shaefer reported that he had been working with the Lions Club
in preparation for the Circus that would be in New Bloomfield on
October 2, 2006. He asked Lions Club member Keith Thomas to give
a report. Mr. Thomas reported that advertising would be done by
placing flyers in the local papers, on the radio and with flyers posted
around the area of New Bloomfield. He said 16 locations had been
selected for sale of advance tickets. Advance tickets will be
sold 3 weeks prior to the Circus date for $9.00 for adult tickets and
$5.00 for children’s tickets. It was decided that advance tickets
be sold at Holts Summit’s “Harvest Festival.
A motion was made by Derina Shelton to add $250.00 to the Budget for
radio advertising and newspaper inserts for the upcoming Circus. Greg
Rehagan seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Aaron reported that a newsletter would be published for
September. The deadline for articles for the paper would be
August 29 or 30. Members were encouraged to get
business/individuals to buy ads for the newspaper.
OLD BUSINESS
President Shaefer reported that due to the resignation of the 2nd Vice
President an election would be held for a new 2nd Vice President.
Gracia Backer nominated Sarah Wilson for the new 2nd Vice
President. There being no other nominations a motion was made
that Sarah be elected by acclamation. The motion was seconded and
passed.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Nancy West announced the “170 Years of Memories” Celebration sponsored
by the New Bloomfield Area Historical Society to be held September 23,
2006 at the City Park.
Fred Case announced a highway clean planned for September 9, 2006 at
2:00 p.m. The clean up crew should meet at Aaron Shaefer’s
house.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned by President
Shaefer at 8: 26 p.m.
