Meeting Minutes
President Aaron Shaefer called the regular meeting of the New
Bloomfield Area Civic Association to order at 7:02 p.m. at the Bank
Star One Meeting Room with an attendance of 12 as shown on the Member
and Visitor Sign In Sheets.

Members of the Executive Committee in attendance were President Aaron
Shaefer, 1st Vice President Nancy West, Treasurer Fred Case, and
Secretary Jane Hurtt.
President Shaefer welcomed the members and visitor to the September
meeting.
MINUTES AND TREASURER’S REPORTS
The President asked the members to review the minutes of the August 24,
2006 meeting, which had been distributed prior to the meeting. He
then asked for additions or corrections to the minutes. There
being no corrections the minutes were approved as written.
Treasurer Fred Case distributed copies of the treasurer’s report the
report showed a balance on hand of $353.73 as of September 28,
2006. The report was received and filed for audit. A copy
of the report is attached to the original of these minutes.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Program Committee – Program Chairperson Gracia Backer asked for Program
suggestions for the future meetings.
Membership Committee - President Shaefer announced that Central Bank in
Holts Summit and Providence Baptist Church have now become members of
the Association
OLD BUSINESS
President Shaefer asked Derina Shelton to give a report on the circus
preparations. She said the clowns had been very helpful in
attracting people to the booth and in selling tickets. They
worked with the Civic members at the Holts Summit Fall Festival and
also rode in the Civic Association Float in the “170 Years of Memories”
parade. She reported that the sale of tickets in the Holts
Summits Festival totaled $125.00 and the sale of tickets at the “170
Years of Memories event totaled $194.00. She announced that the
Association would be working at the Lions Club on Sunday October 1,
2006 from 2:00 – 6:00 to sell advance tickets.
The President asked for volunteers from the Association to assist with
parking on the day of the Circus. He asked that volunteers sign
up to help with the parking for the two shows.
NEW BUSINESS
President Shaefer informed the membership that he had purchased a laser
printer to replace his ink jet printer. The printer is to be used
to print the News Blaster. He asked if the Association would like
to reimburse him for the purchase price of $100.00. A motion was
made by Rosemary Augustine to reimburse Aaron Shaefer $100.00 for the
purchase of the laser printer. The motion was seconded by Luther
Riley and passed.
President Shaefer informed the membership that he had filed the
Association with the Secretary of State. The fee was $15.00 and
must be done annually. A motion was made by Nancy West that Aaron
Shaefer be reimbursed $15.00 for the filing fee. The motion was
seconded by Robert Claypool and passed.
President Shaefer proposed an increase in membership fees for the 2007
year. After discussion and examination of the Constitution and By
Laws it was decided to address this issue in November per NBACA By
Laws. (Article III Section 2)
President appointed Gracia to write reminders of the monthly meetings
and then send the notice to Aaron. He will then notify the
members via e-mail.
Jane Hurtt asked the President to appoint a committee to devise
guidelines for selling ads for the New Blaster. He asked for
volunteers to work on this committee. Robert Claypool and Sharon
Shaefer will work with Jane on this committee. President
Shaefer instructed the committee to meet and make recommendations for a
fee schedule for the sale of ads. A suggestion was made that ads
be sold on a yearly basis and the same fee basis for the size of ads be
used which was voted on at the July 27, 2006 meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Shaefer made the following announcements:

The New Bloomfield United Methodist Church’s Rummage and Bake Sale
September 29, 2006 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
The Partnership Development Committee in the NB High School has asked
if they could partnership with the Civic Association to provide
information to the community via the News Blaster. The Jr./Sr.
High School Assistant Principal Steve Barnes has agreed to be the “news
correspondent” for the school.
The November Regular meeting will be on the 5th Thursday rather than
the usual 4th Thursday. This change was made because of the
Thanksgiving holiday.
1st Vice President Nancy West introduced Mary Lou Stith from Bank Star
One.
Fred Case Chairperson of Adopt a Highway announced Highway J clean up
would be on November 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Members
should meet at Aaron’s house at 1:30. He also announced that the
Association was listed as new adopters in the Highway Department’s
Roadside Review.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion to adjourn was made by Gracia Backer. The motion was
seconded and passed.
